Happy Fri-yay friends! I’ve got a curious Q for ya…do you know your personality type? I’m a unique ISFJ – aka The Defender. I think it’s so important to understand ourselves on a deeper level past what our likes/dislikes are. I’ve found that if I know what makes me tick and WHY, I give myself and those around me more grace.
For the longest time, I lived in a state of frustration with myself, not fully understanding who I was. It’s hard when you’re a big blend of contradictions. I like good quality things but am happiest being barefoot outside. I’ll bail on networking events every. single. time. but thrive under pressure with an audience. I internally process everything but am the first to stand up and go to battle when someone else is being mistreated. I extend A LOT of grace to my own enemies but am fiercely protective and unforgiving when a loved one has been crossed. Emotional situations are exhausting to me but I crave an emotional connection with my family and close friends.
For a long time, I felt like my own version of Jekyll and Hyde. It was frustrating. But then I began studying psychology, particularly on motherhood and entrepreneurship as those are two things I’m most passionate about. I learned that I don’t, in fact, have a split personality but rather an in-depth nature about me.
Those confusing contradictions allow me to experience the best of both worlds of being an introvert and an extrovert. I’m able to listen to the needs of others first before I feel the need to give my opinion. I don’t want the approval of others but I value input from the meaningful relationships I have. My friends know I’m loyal and reliable and my family feels loved and protected.
Once I realized who I was I became a better business owner as well. I now realize that my strength doesn’t lie with everyone getting a little piece of me but instead, I’m the best coach when I’m pouring into clients 1:1 or in small groups. My competitive edge comes out when one of my students is being taken advantage of and I’m eager to go to bat for them. I’m a patient mom with students in the beginning but am not afraid to dish out tough love when I know they need it and can handle it. I sympathize with their hardships while pushing them outside of their comfort zone.
When we realize the way our mind works and embrace not only our strengths but also our weaknesses that is when we can become the best version of ourselves. That is when we have the ability to pour into others the most. So, I’m curious, what’s your personality type? Share yours in the comments below. If you don’t know yours here’s a quick (and free) quiz you can take to start learning more about yourself.
Annnnnd in case you were wondering how the above photo fits into the mix – it doesn’t. I just really, REALLY love horses.
